Your nose is literally up front and centre on your face. Its shape and the way it relates to the rest of your features, can significantly impact your appearance. Your nose is of the utmost importance in creating a balanced, harmonious appearance.
Nose Implants can be used to create the look and shape you desire. They may be used in Rhinoplasty for a number of reasons. Implants provide structural support and can also be used to add length and projection to the nose.
In terms of the Implant itself, there are a number of options available. Cartilage from your own body or synthetic materials such as silicone and forms of medical grade plastic; are some of the materials often used.
The main advantage of synthetic materials is that they are less prone to distortion over time. However, being foreign materials they are more prone to infection. Rib Cartilage on the other hand is the patients own material and so over time will actually become apart of the nose. Not being rigid means, though, that it can distort over time.
As each patient is different, during your initial consultation your surgeon will discuss with you the different materials and best option for you.
What is involved in treatment?
In this procedure the surgeon makes an incision within or outside of the nose. The implant is then slid into position and sutured into place. The incisions are minimal.
Important things to remember...
It is essential to tell your surgeon if you have had any previous nose surgery or an injury to your nose, even if it was many years ago. You should also inform your surgeon if you have any breathing difficulties. Do not hesitate to ask the doctor any questions you may have regarding your expectations or concerns about the results.
